Both of my grandparents (male) were soldiers during WWII; one of them an advanced scout, the other at a typewriter. This one, is a few lines about being an advanced scout during WWII... He wrote his own memoirs of many events, I will mention just minor passing comments he told me. A few sentences out of thousands upon thousands.
He described driving through german towns and cities, alone, watching columns of german troops marching in formation... in the streets around him. He said, they generally did not bother/notice him; I suppose they were all headed somewhere and couldn't bother chasing down every random person - who knows.
Then, he'd have to return to report what he'd found out; which he said, was actually just as dangerous as the scouting itself. He was far more worried, apparently, about being killed returning to report information, than he was collecting it.
Then; he returned home from WWII had a big family, and built his own little private fortune as an accountant and using capital for capital sake. The book pictured, he is the author of; a bit of his legacy.
That is one member of my family... and; it does not do justice to the tale that should be told.
